Description
Protector of the poor and weak, Saint Basil, a Father and Teacher of the Orthodox Church, grew up in Caesarea of Cappadocia to noble and wealthy parents with Christian beliefs. Known as one of the three Great Hierarchs, the great theologian occupied himself with the intense study of Holy Scripture. He devoted years to teaching, pastoral service, and the organization of monasteries. Saint Basil is celebrated on Jan 2nd in the Roman Catholic Church and Jan 1st in the Eastern Orthodox Church. He was a major 4th-century figure, known for his writings, theology, and role as Bishop of Caesarea.
