Saint Barbara, also known as the Great Martyr Barbara, was born to a wealthy pagan family, an exceptional beauty built a tower to hide her from harm and the eyes of strangers. She soon realized the idols her father and teachers worshiped were not of God’s creation and became a Christian, escaping the tower. She was eventually discovered by her father, who beat her mercilessly and eventually executed her own father. God took revenge on her father by striking him dead with a bolt of lightning.
