Description
A patron saint and protector of Zakynthos, Saint Dionysios is one of the most popular saints of Orthodoxy. He received the monastic blessing at the age of 20 and was named Daniel. Two years later, he became abbot of the Strofades Monastery in Zakynthos, and a year later, he was ordained priest. In 1577, he was ordained Bishop of Aegina and accomplished significant charitable work. Twenty-two years later, he resigned due to poor health and returned to Zakynthos. He died at the age of 75. Three years after his interment in the church of Saint George of Strofades, it was discovered that his relics were intact. The relics remain as such to this day and are kept at the church of the Saint in Zakynthos.
