Description

One of the more famous icons of the Virgin Mary Child Holding was created by Emmanuel Tzanes in 1651. Emmanuel the painter of the Renaissance and significant hagiographer from Rethymno, was a representative of the Cretan School. The picture is kept in the Holy Monastery of Hypapanti, in Corfu. This icon symbolizing hope and intercession for believers.  The name means "Mother of God (Theotokos) holding the Child."
