Saint Longinus came from Cappadocia and lived during the reign of Tiberius Caesar (14 - 37 AD). Longinus was a Centurion, under the orders of Pontius Pilate and along with his soldiers, he oversaw the Crucifixion of Jesus. He was then assigned to guard the sealed tomb of our Lord and became an eyewitness of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Then, Longinus was convinced that Jesus is the Son of God and returned to his homeland to preach the Resurrection. However, Pontius Pilate and Tiberius soon learned of his desertion and demanded his beheading. The memory of Saint Longinos is commemorated on October 16.
