Description
Archangel Gabriel was the holy messenger sent to inform Zechariah of the birth of John the Baptist. He is further associated with the Annunciation, the event in which Archangel Gabriel visits the Virgin Mary to inform her that she will give birth to Jesus. He is also credited with explaining Daniel’s visions to him and communicating the Prophecy of Seventy Weeks, found in the Book of Daniel (Old Testament). One of the four known Archangels, Gabriel is the patron saint for individuals working in communications.
Archangel Gabriel is depicted holding a staff in his left hand, symbolizing that he is a messenger of God. In his right hand is a scroll, which is frequently shown with prophets in the Old Testament. The scroll symbolizes the wisdom God gave Gabriel.
