Description
Saint Paraskevi is known as the patron saint of eyes. In this beautiful icon, you can see her holding the bowl with 2 eyes. She was known for preaching the word of God to the surrounding areas. She was arrested and, in refusing to give up Christianity, she was ordered to be killed by being placed in a pot of boiling oil. She was untouched by the hot oil, and the Emperor ordered the oil be heated more. She threw the oil in his face, rendering him blind. He begged her to restore his sight, and she placed her hands over his eyes and prayed for his eyesight to be restored.
She is the patron saint of eye ailments, blindness, and healing of the eyes, with many miracles attributed to her.
