Description

Hand painted icon of Saint Julia of Corsica, made in Mount Athos, on natural wood. The icon is delivered in a wooden box.

Saint Julia came from Carthage and was sold as a slave to a merchant named Eusebius, who was a pagan. Eusebius tried many times to make Julia deny the Lord, but she remained steadfast in her faith. At one point they sailed towards Gaul and reached Cape Corsica. There, the pagan commander Felix proposed to Eusebius to grant him the Christian slave, but he refused. So Felix secretly grabbed Julia and promised to free her if she sacrificed to the idols. Saint Julia remained a faithful servant of the Lord and for this she received the crown of martyrdom, after horrible tortures. Saint Julia is commemorated on July 16 or May 23 and in Corsica she is honored as a patron saint.
