Later, Philotheos settled on Mount Athos, in the monastery of Dionysios, and then retired to a cave, under the pretext that he was sick and became deaf. Philotheos acquired three disciples and was endowed with the gift of foresight. He died peacefully at the age of 84 and is commemorated every October 21st.
